Chairman Shi Yanhua meets with the delegation from the National Committee on United States-China Relations


On July 22, 2017, WJF Chairman Ambassador Shi Yanhua was invited to a welcome banquet, which was prepared for young visiting scholars of the delegation from the National Committee on United States-China Relations (NCUSCR). She had friendly exchanges with the delegation members. She was accompanied by WJF Secretary-General Feng Wei.

The delegation was led by David M. Lampton, former NCUSCR president and famous scholar of China studies, and Jan Berries, NCUSCR vice president. All the delegates were young and middle-aged experts and scholars from think tanks and universities in the United States, who were well-versed in China studies. Thy would have a 10-day visit to China beginning from July 22.

Ambassador Wu Jianmin and Ambassador Shi Yanhua once worked as the first staff members of the Permanent Mission of the PRC to the UN in New York in 1971. At that time, they became friends with Ms. Berries, and later they met Professor Lampton. They have maintained friendly relations with the NCUSCR over the years. In her speech at the banquet, Ambassador Shi Yanhua reviewed the Sino-U.S. relations in the past four decades, as well as her long-lasting friendship with Professor Lampton and Ms. Berries. She encouraged young experts and scholars of the delegation to approach and study China thoroughly and objectively, thus contributing to the development of Sino-U.S. relations.

Secretary-General Feng Wei introduced to the delegates the development plan of the WJF and the diplomatic philosophy of Ambassador Wu. He said that the Foundation is ready to communicate and cooperate closely with the NCUSCR and the experts and scholars, work together on the basis of existing friendly ties, and constantly expand the circle of Friends of Wu Jianmin so as to contribute to the health and stability of Sino-U.S. relations.
